For the word of God is living
and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,
and piercing as far as the division
of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow,
and able to judge the thoughts
and intentions of the heart.[1]
All Scripture is inspired by
God and profitable
for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, for training in righteousness;
so that the man of God may be
adequate, equipped for every good work.[2]
Be diligent to present yourself
approved to God
as a workman who does not need
to be ashamed,
accurately handling the word
of truth.[3]
When we believe in Jesus Christ we are born again.[4] As believers in Jesus Christ we are command to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.[5] Just as we must eat physical food to grow physically we must eat spiritual food to grow spiritually.[6] That spiritual food is the Word of God.[7] The Word of God is the first great power source of the believer.
As believers we should glorify God.[8] We glorify God by worshipping Him. To worship God we must be filled with the Holy Spirit and study His Truth as revealed in the Word of God,[9] the Bible[10]. The filling of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God are the two great power sources for the believer.
As believers we are filled with the Holy Spirit at the point of time when we believe in Jesus Christ[11] We lose the filling of the Holy Spirit when we sin. The filling of the Holy Spirit is again restored when we confess our sins.[12] The filling of the Holy Spirit is required to properly metabolize spiritual food. The confession of sin should always be done prior to studying God’s Word.
To grow, or mature, spiritually the believer must eat spiritual food. That spiritual food is the Word of God. This is the second great power source for the believer. For maximum spiritual growth the believer should have a consistent intake of accurate teaching of the Word of God.
